IFRC Secretary General meets Prime Minister

International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies Secretary General Jagan Chapagan and his delegation visited Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa at Temple Trees yesterday (08).

The International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, the largest humanitarian organization in the world, is present in 192 countries.

The Prime Minister expressed his gratitude to the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) for its humanitarian assistance to the people of Sri Lanka through the Sri Lankan Red Cross during every disaster in history, including the Covid pandemic.

The Secretary General of the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagan Chapagan, underlined that the Sri Lanka Red Cross is one of the most active and transparent members of the member countries of the Red Cross around the world. He expressed confidence that their demands will be given priority in future relief services and that they hope to provide benefits on behalf of the people of Sri Lanka.

The Prime Minister underlined that the government fully supports the role played by the president of the Sri Lankan Red Cross Society Jagath Abeysinghe in helping the population.

Central Bank Governor Ajith Nivard Cabraal, Prime Minister’s Secretary Anura Dissanayake, Udaya Regimi, Chief Indian Regional Representative to the International Federation of Red Cross and Red Crescent Societies, Jagath Abeysinghe, President of the Red Cross from Sri Lanka, Dr Mahesh Gunasekara, Managing Director and Deputy Managing Director Aruna Lekamge were also present on this occasion.
