Inauguration of the largest cement plant in Sri Lanka

The state-of-the-art cement manufacturing plant of Lanwa Sanstha Cement Corporation (Pvt) Ltd was declared open today (7 March) by President Gotabaya Rajapaksa and Prime Minister Mahinda Rajapaksa.

A BOI venture, the 63-acre Lanwa Sanstha facility is located in the Mirijjawila export processing area in Hambantota. The total capacity of the plant would be 4 million MT per year.

The facility includes a fully automated stacker salvage yard and 2 types of ship unloader decks for efficient, waste-free and sustainable cargo handling.

Investors hope that this venture would be a boost for the economy as well as the construction sector which is currently suffering due to shortages of raw materials due to the ban on imports to remedy the currency crisis.

The factory of Lanwa Sanstha Cement (Pvt) Ltd. will produce the full range of cement products, including Ordinary Portland Cement (OPC), Portland Composite Cement (PPC) and Blended Hydraulic Cement (BHC), meeting growing local demand for landmark projects including Port City and the expressway network.

Lanwa Sanstha Cement Corporation (Pvt) Limited is a sister company of Sri Lanka’s leading steel manufacturer, Ceylon Steel Corporation Limited.
