The Meteorologist presents weather information in a relevant and conversational way for viewers in central Oregon, on air and online.

This position uses scientific training and tools to provide daily weather forecasts.

The individual will report live weather from various locations, including in the studio and in the field. They will be responsible for keeping weather information up-to-date and accessible to viewers, which includes forecasts, warnings, severe weather alerts and generating charts and maps using weather system tools across all platforms .

  • Uses scientific training and tools to provide weather forecasts from the studio, in the field, or at community events.
  • Maintains website to keep weather information relevant and up to date. Post forecasts, warnings, weather changes and generate charts and maps using weather system tools.
  • Work with producers, assignment desk and managers to monitor current weather and ensure newsroom staff are aware of major weather events.

Qualifications required

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years of work experience.
  • 1+ years of professional experience in meteorology

other qualifications

  • Preferred on-air experience.
  • American’s Certified Broadcast Meteorologist
  • Preferred Meteorological Society.
  • Excellent written, verbal, interpersonal and communication skills.
  • Ability to meet deadlines.
  • Ability to cover severe weather events.

In your role as a news anchor, you will operate two television stations that broadcast in Bend, OR: KOHD-TV ABC and KBNZ-TV CBS.

This position requires a trained information professional who can harness their creativity to tell original and engaging stories that matter to our viewers.

The news anchor must possess imagination, originality and a personality that is both credible and sincere.

The position must be able to conduct investigative interviews, analyze and interpret public events and develop an editorial vision that will help tell stories our viewers want to know and need to know in the center of l ‘Oregon.

As a newscaster, you must have the knowledge and skills to cover a wide variety of topics including current affairs, history, education, business, social trends, people, service community and other elements uniquely local to central Oregon.

You’ll also collaborate with reporters and on-air talent to tell stories from the studio or the field.

  • Anchor (either solo or as a co-anchor) all newscasts as required, which includes reading from the teleprompter, cross-talking with meteorologists and reporters, interviewing guests live on the set or via live action, and the ability to adapt and detach in live news situations.
  • Research, develop and write stories for daily news. Exercise editorial judgment to ensure quality daily live content. Also, to include:
  • Write and produce concise and precise texts and respect strict deadlines.
  • Produce broadcasts in newsroom software for the air as assigned. May include:
    • Organize the reports as they will appear on the air.
    • Content stream synchronization during live broadcasts
    • Writing/editing/formatting reports for broadcast
    • Coordinate with reporters to ensure stories are inserted into broadcasts in a timely and appropriate manner
  • The research prepares and interviews people in a wide range of different fields and circumstances. May also include the following:
    • Establish contacts to maintain a flow of news, e.g., police and emergency services, local council, community groups, health trusts, press officers from various organisations, general public etc. ;
    • Research and investigate stories through your contacts, press releases and other media;
    • Attend press conferences and ask questions;
    • Attend a variety of events, such as board meetings, sporting events, talent contests, etc. ;
    • Answer phones and react to news stories that matter to our viewers; and,
    • Work closely with the broadcast team, photographers, editors and producers
  • Recording/editing interviews using technical camera, recording and computer equipment
  • “Live” online reporting or real-time blogging on social media when covering important events.
  • Organize events and/or make public appearances for Zolo Media, as assigned.

Qualifications required

  • Bachelor’s degree (or higher) -OR- 4+ years of work experience
  • Over 5 years experience in storytelling “on camera”

    Reliable and motivated to quickly fulfill his obligations; able to work independently without supervision.
  • Able to analyze situations, use logic to solve problems and pay close attention to detail.

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and Apple computers, understanding and ability to troubleshoot preferred computers; Basic understanding of broadcast cameras and how they work.
  • Basic non-linear editing skills. Final Cut, Adobe Premier, Avid or similar.
  • Able to work evenings and weekends as part of a regular schedule and/or dictated by business needs
  • Strong work ethic emphasizing team commitment.
  • Valid driver’s license with satisfactory driving record (provided by applicant)

  • “Live” online reporting or real-time blogging on social media when covering important events. Adapting stories to online and web platforms.

Qualifications required

  • Associate’s degree (or higher) -OR- 2+ years of work experience.
  • 1+ years of experience in newsroom, journalism and/or storytelling in front of the camera
