Beloved Memphis Chief Meteorologist Joey Sulipeck will no longer be reporting the weather to FOX13.
According to a Daily Memphian report, TV staff members have been told that Sulipeck will not be returning to his post, and a Chief Meteorologist position is now open on the recruitment site, LinkedIn.
Local pastor: don’t cancel the weather forecaster, cancel the REPORTER!
The meteorologist came under fire in May after posting a tweet following Game 3 of the Memphis Grizzlies playoff series against Golden State Warriors player Draymond Green.
“And chew this: Draymond spins his mouth open the whole game, but mild-mannered Kyle Anderson disputes a call and gets kicked out? Top level jackassery.
“Commercial Appeal reporter Evan Barnes launched what would become a national protest against the beloved meteorologist.
“Emotions are running high at the moment among the teams and the fans about the game in question, but is it here?
@joeysulipeck—unacceptable,” Barnes tweeted in response. “Memo to @FOX13Memphis – talk to your man and check him out. It’s over the line and I won’t put up with it. That’s bullshit.
Fox 13 pulled Sulipeck off the air while station superiors launched a “full investigation.”
National radio host Todd Starnes blasted Fox’s decision – calling Sulipeck a victim of the cancel culture mob.
“It seems Joey’s only crime was having the wrong skin color and the wrong chromosomes,” Starnes said. “Anyone who watched 30 seconds of Draymond Green play on the court knows exactly what Joey was talking about.”
Thousands of viewers came to Sulipeck’s defense, but their pleas to keep him on the air fell on deaf ears.
“FOX13 management should be ashamed of themselves,” Starnes said. “Next-level jackassery.”
