The Bureau of Meteorology has issued a severe thunderstorm warning for parts of Sydney, with warnings of heavy rain which could lead to flash flooding and dangerous and “life-threatening” landslides. The storm and rainfall is currently positioned over northern Sydney covering areas including much of the northern beaches and the north shore.

Dangerous thunderstorms have been detected at Mona Vale, Hornsby and Bondi Beach.

Several areas of Sydney have already been ordered to evacuate today. Residents of low-lying areas near the Manly Dam have been ordered to evacuate when the dam overflows. Parts of Camden are also currently under an evacuation order, while warnings of potential evacuations have been issued for parts of Penrith, Regentville, Cranebrook and Lower Portland.

Roads across Sydney have also been closed due to flooding, and commuters have been warned to avoid public transport due to reduced, infrequent and canceled services.

Across Sydney, people have been posting images and videos of flooding, landslides and even temporary waterfalls on Twitter.
