(MENAFN- Mid-East.Info) Abu Dhabi, UAE: The National Meteorological Center (NCM) hosted a virtual session titled âRainfall Trends in the UAE and the Arabian Peninsulaâ as part of the series Rain Enhancement Hub webinars hosted by the UAE Rain Enhancement Science Research Program (UAEREP).
His Excellency Dr Abdulla Al Mandous, Director of NCM and President of WMO Regional Association II (Asia), said: The growing demand for this vital resource. We are convinced that the topics discussed during its sessions will be an important reference for the various stakeholders. In addition, they support the objectives of the program by creating an integrated global research community to address various topics related to improving rainfall, especially in drought-prone areas around the world.
In his presentation, Taha Ouarda, professor and president of the Canada Research Chair in Statistical Hydroclimatology at the National Institute of Scientific Research, described the evolution and dynamics of the precipitation regime in the United Arab Emirates. He presented an analysis of annual, seasonal and monthly precipitation totals; annual, seasonal and monthly maximum precipitation; and the number of rainy days per year, season and month, as recorded by a number of UAE weather stations for trend assessment and detection of change points.
Diana Francis, Senior Research Scientist and Head of the Environmental and Geophysical Sciences Laboratory (ENGEOS) at Khalifa University, discussed precipitation patterns in the Arabian Peninsula. It has shown that there are efficient systems in the lower and upper layers of the atmosphere, which play an important role in cloud formation and precipitation, and that the amount and duration of precipitation depends on different elements. weather describing current conditions in the area.
For her part, Alya Al Mazroui, Director of UAEREP, said: âThis virtual session provides an ideal platform for members of the global research community on improving rainfall and weather modification and for those interested in this area of ââresearch are emerging to better understand precipitation patterns. in the United Arab Emirates and the wider region. By hosting the Rain Enhancement Hub webinar series, we seek to highlight different research and practical approaches to the science of rain enhancement. The strong participation of academics, researchers and local and international experts in these sessions allows us to examine different aspects of this vital area of ââresearch.
By hosting the Rain Enhancement Hub webinar series, NCM aims to provide an interactive virtual platform to bring together members of the research community to share their knowledge and expertise in the science of rain enhancement and improvement. weather modification and to educate the public on their crucial role in achieving global water security.
