Three provinces will receive heavy rainfall of about 100mm

Showers or thunderstorms will occur in several places over most parts of the island during the afternoon or night.

Showers may occur in the Northern, North Western and Western provinces as well as Galle and Matara districts during the morning as well.

Heavy showers of around 100mm can be expected in parts of Northern, North Central, Eastern and Uva provinces and Puttalam district.

The general public is advised to take adequate precautions to minimize damage from temporary localized strong winds and lightning during thunderstorms.

Sea areas:

Showers or thunderstorms will occur in several places in the sea areas around the island.

Winds will be southwesterly or variable in direction. The wind speed will be 20 to 30 km/h. The meteorology department said wind speeds can sometimes increase up to 40 km/h in sea areas off the coast stretching from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

It is possible to increase swell waves by around 2.0m to 2.5m in sea areas off the coast extending from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota.

Sea areas off the coast stretching from Galle to Pottuvil via Hambantota will be choppy at times. Other sea areas around the island will be weak.

Temporarily strong gusty winds and very rough seas can be expected during thunderstorms.
