The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) issued a yellow weather warning on Tuesday predicting a thunderstorm with lightning and light to moderate rainfall for parts of the Vidarbha region in Maharashtra over the next two days.
Several districts in eastern Vidarbha, including Nagpur, witnessed rain and hail during the day. IMD Nagpur Regional Weather Center has issued a yellow warning for Nagpur, Wardha, Chandrapur, Yavatmal, Gondia, Bhandara and Gadchiroli districts of Vidarbha until Thursday, an official said. IMD warned of thunderstorms with lightning and light to moderate precipitation which are most likely to continue in a few places above Nagpur, Wardha, Bhandara, Gondia and thunderstorms and hail in a few places in the districts of Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Yavatmal, he said.
Ballarpur in Chandrapur district recorded 90 mm of precipitation, followed by Chamorshi to Gadchiroli with 66 mm, Deoli to Wardha with 10.7 mm and 0.5 mm of precipitation in isolated places of Nagpur district, until 8:30 a.m. Tuesday, the official said. Various parts of Chandrapur, Gadchiroli and Wardha received more than 1cm of rain until noon, he added.
Speaking to PTI, the Deputy Director General of Meteorology at IMD Nagpur ML Sahu said the rainfall in Vidarbha was due to induced cyclonic circulation aloft over Haryana and northern Madhya Pradesh.
Apart from that, IMD had also forecast hail in isolated places in Nagpur and Wardha districts during the daytime, it was said.
