The Brunei Darussalam Meteorological Department (BDMD) clarified that a viral video circulating on social media of a graphical animation of the precipitation forecast from December 20 to 30 in the Southeast Asian region shows the accumulation precipitation for the 24 hour, three day, five day and 10 day period.
The amount of precipitation shown is considered normal for the rainy season (northeast monsoon) experienced by the region.
The Sultanate is currently in the rainy season where unstable weather is normal with occasional heavy showers, especially from night until the early hours of the morning. The active weather is expected to run from December 25 to 31.
The ministry advised the public not to be alarmed and instead follow the official weather information released by the BDMD.
The ministry will continue to monitor weather conditions and issue advisories and warnings as necessary.
The ministry urged the public not to be easily trusted and misled by unconfirmed information circulating on social media without authenticating its validity.
