WDTN, Nexstar’s NBC affiliate in Dayton, Ohio, needs a Weekend Evening Co-Anchor/MMJ, a Weekend Matinee Co-Anchor/MMJ, and a weekend evening meteorologist/MMJ.

Dayton is Ohio’s sixth largest city, just north of Cincinnati and just west of Columbus.

Dayton offers both a redeveloped downtown full of unique activities and suburbs that provide tight-knit communities for the area’s many residents.

The Dayton area ranked among the top 10% in the nation for arts and culture. In a survey of American Style magazine, Dayton ranked No. 2 in the nation among mid-size cities as an arts destination, ranking higher than big cities like Atlanta, St. Louis and Cincinnati. There are 119 colleges within 100 miles of Dayton.

Those who enjoy spending time outdoors will find nearly 20 different subway parks and over 330 miles of paved bike paths. Several historic neighborhoods and neighborhoods, a bike-share program, and a dozen craft breweries and microbreweries add to Dayton’s cultural gems.

This candidate will co-anchor weekend newscasts and MMJ three days a week.

This person would fill in during other slots of the day as well.

  • Reports news stories for broadcast, describing background and details of events.
  • Shoots and edits reports.
  • Co-presenters of the weekend evening newscasts.
  • Arrange interviews with people who can provide information about the stories.
  • Revisions copy and correct errors in content, grammar, and punctuation, following prescribed editorial style and formatting guidelines.
  • Reviews and evaluates notes taken on aspects of the event to isolate relevant facts and details.
  • Determines the length and format of a story and organizes the material accordingly.
  • Researches and analyzes background information related to news stories in order to be able to provide complete and accurate information.
  • Provides news managers and news producers with stories relevant to the local community.
  • Receives assignments and evaluates leads and tips to develop story ideas.
  • Discuss issues with producers and/or information managers to establish priorities or positions.
  • Checks reference material such as books, news files, or public records for relevant facts.
  • Produces and presents reports for all platforms.
  • Ensures that all content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.

Requirements & Skills:

  • Bachelor’s degree in broadcast journalism, or a related field, or an equivalent combination of education and work experience.

The Weekend Party/MMJ Co-Anchor must be able to sit, conduct phone conversations, use email, write letters and memos, conduct face-to-face discussions face-to-face with individuals or groups, to make decisions without supervision, to make decisions that impact the performance of colleagues, to work in close proximity to others, to occasionally work outdoors in all weather conditions and to work indoors under controlled environmental conditions.

In addition, the multimedia journalist must be able to lift, set up and use equipment weighing up to 25 pounds, and be able to manipulate, control objects, tools or controls. Repetitive movements are necessary.

Work may be performed in extremely bright or inadequate lighting conditions.

This candidate will host the weekend morning and MMJ newscasts three days a week.

The Weekend Evening Meteorologist/forecasts weather conditions and produces and anchors weather reports for all platforms in a way that is clear, engaging and meaningful to news consumers.

  • Produces and presents weather reports for all platforms.
  • Ensures all-weather content meets company standards for journalistic integrity and production quality.
  • Writes and disseminates weather reports in a clear and concise manner.
  • Help write, write, research and coordinate weather programming and other content.
  • Responds to severe and/or severe weather events and other newsroom emergencies as needed.
  • Works closely with the weather team to develop comprehensive weather coverage.
  • Participates in promotional activities, including public appearances.
  • Performs special projects and other assigned tasks.
